Space mission engineering courses taught by Dr. James Wertz
Two five-day courses of 38 instruction hours each. More than 3,000 professionals and graduate students in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia and South America have taken Microcosm courses.
Space Mission Engineering: The New SMAD
Dr. Wertz co-edited and principally wrote the course book. He has taught the original SMAD course for over 15 years.
- The new volume covers recent developments in space mission engineering.
- Web-based Excel models let you adapt the data to your own missions.
- Every reference in the book links online to books or papers from AIAA, IEEE and other organizations.
Design of Low-Cost Space Missions
The course shows how to cut cost and schedule while keeping performance and resiliency high and risk low. It is based on a full-semester graduate course that Dr. Wertz taught for over a decade at the University of Southern California.
- It walks through the full process of planning lower-cost, lower-risk, faster and highly capable missions.
- It includes all material from the semester course, which was once a televised, for-credit course for industry, the Department of Defense and NASA centers.
- It goes deeper than the shorter summary courses on each mission element: system, spacecraft, payload, launch, ground segment and operations.
